  • 5/12/2023 - Numerous undergraduate students in the lab graduate. Nour is heading to do her PhD at Stanford University. Aubrey is going to be a Research Specialist at Stanford University. Shifa will be a Medical Researcher at Duke University. Amber will be completing her PhD at Virginia Tech. Bella will be working in science policy. Congratulations everyone!

  • 7/1/2022 - Dr. Jarome is promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the School of Animal Sciences.

  • 7/1/2022 - The Jarome lab is awarded a 2 year, $266,000 grant from the Virginia Commonwealth Health Research Board (CHRB) to study the epigenetic mechanisms of obesity development

This grant supplement will provide 2 years of support for Kayla to study the developmental regulation of sex differences in protein degradation in the brain while developing her professional skills.   • 2/18/2021 - The lab publishes a paper on sex differences in fear memory formation in Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. This project was led by Rishi, Natalie and Kayla and included contributions from nearly every member of the lab.

  • 1/8/2021 - With some help from several members of the lab, Dr. Jarome’s final paper from his postdoctoral training with Dr. Farah Lubin (UAB) is published in Biological Psychiatry. This paper shows a novel role for histone ubiquitination in memory formation.

  • 11/25/2020 - Shaga’s paper on the role of double stand DNA breaks in memory reconsolidation is published in International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

  • 11/4/2020 - The Jarome lab is awarded a 5 year, $1.9 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study sex differences in protein degradation during fear memory formation.

  • 8/12/2020 - Dr. Jarome is awarded the 2020 School of Neuroscience Excellence in Research Award.

  • 7/20/2020 - The Jarome lab and the laboratory of Dr. Marieke Gilmartin (Marquette University) are awarded a collaborative 2 year, $425,000.00 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study sex differences in cortical DNA hydroxymethylation in fear memory formation.

  • 07/01/2020 - Taylor’s paper on changes in hippocampus protein degradation and impaired spatial memory during the development of obesity is published in Behavioural Brain Research.

  • 05/16/2020 - The lab says goodbye to Rishi Devulapalli, Sabrina Orsi, Jacob Nelsen, Natalie Jones and Hannah Kugler, Virginia Tech class of 2020. Rishi will be moving to Boston to work with AmeriCorps as a 10th grade math and science teaching assistant while we applies to M.D. and M.D./Ph.D. programs. Sabrina will start her Ph.D. studies at the University of Buffalo in the fall. Jacob is applying to medical school programs. Natalie will start her Master’s degree studies at Georgetown University in the fall. Hannah is starting her position as a Research Technician at Georgetown University. Congratulations everyone!
